It is with great sadness that we share a deeply personal moment in the life of Creekside Farms. In early December, our beloved co-founder and matriarch, Carol Umbarger, passed away suddenly. For over 36 years, Carol poured her heart, ingenuity, and passion into building a business that is more than a business—it is an extension of her love for family, nature, and the beauty that connection brings to our lives.
Creekside Farms was Carol’s vision, that started as a cut flower business and grew into a three-generation wreath making business with family at its core. Carol’s vision and her unwavering commitment to quality touched countless lives, and her legacy lives on in the homes and hearts of those who cherish our creations.
As a company that began with Carol's vision and values, we assure you that Creekside Farms remains what it has always been: a family business committed to creating high end natural products handcrafted by skilled artisans that bring joy to its recipients. Her spirit is with us in every wreath we create, in every detail we craft, and in every customer we serve.
To our loyal customers and friends, we thank you for being part of this journey with us. Your support has been a foundation for us, and it is with gratitude and determination that we continue Carol’s legacy. We are committed to honoring her memory in every step forward.
To honor Carol's incredible legacy, we've created a special wreath: Carols Commemorative Wreath.Â
This design is filled with the botanicals and blooms that meant so much to Carol and represent key moments in Creekside Farms’ history. In the beginning, Carol had the vision, and her husband, Larry, more than helped execute it.Â
The white statice was one of the first flowers Carol and Larry planted to sell as a fresh cut flower. The yellow strawflowers came later and the color yellow, also signifies happiness and hope, adding additional meaning to this wreath.Â
The pepperberries are what put Creekside Farms in the wreath business. Carol began selling them as bunches, that then lead to learning to make fresh eucalyptus and pepperberry wreaths for Smith & Hawken.Â
The base of this wreath is all culinary herbs, which has been the backbone of Creekside Farms. Carol's love of herbs and all things natural lead to growing herbs as soon as the wreath-making part of the company became its main focus.
Carol's other passion was lavender. Experimenting with lavender plants began in the early years of Creekside Farms. She and her son, Allen, who is the General Manager, have spent years experimenting with several varieties, to find those that are the hardiest and have the best color and scent for our wreaths.
We will offer Carol's Commemorative Wreath year-round as a symbol of Carol's ongoing legacy.
